About
School Sport ACT (SSACT) is responsible for the oversight of school sport as it relates to the School Sport Australia representative pathway. SSACT supports all ACT schools wishing to participate from the three sectors of education; ACT Department of Education & Training, the Catholic Education Office and the Independent Schools Association.
SSACT actively promotes sport for all ACT school students through:
- Participation – all students are encouraged to be active
- Potential – athletes have the chance to develop their potential and compete at their chosen level
- Pathways – students are encouraged to participate in community sport as well as school sport to develop lifelong habits, and therefore increase their health and well being

School Sport ACT Council
The ACT School Sport Council is responsible for the efficient management of the School Sport ACT Office and oversees the operation of the School Sport Management Committee.
The Council also develops and approves all major policies and provides strategic direction to the organisation.
The Council consists of an independently appointed chair and seven other members who are highly experienced members of the SSACT stakeholder community. Representation includes the three sectors of education and community sport.
The Council meets four times a year to discuss and resolve current issues affecting SSACT and holds an Annual General Meeting in the first term of each school year.
Message from the chair
My name maybe familiar, I was previously the Executive Officer of School Sport ACT. After nearly 10 rewarding years in the role, I stepped away to pursue other opportunities but with a wish to continue my connection with School Sport and provide support where possible, I have accepted nomination as Chair of the ACT School Sport Council.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend, what can never be sufficient, gratitude to Chris Nunn OAM, our former Chair, who has provided steadfast guidance and support to not only the organisation, but to myself personally, over the 14 years in the role as Chair. Chris recognised the significant role School Sport ACT plays in our schools and larger community, and strategically worked towards improving operations, service and position of the organisation to ensure our students received every opportunity to achieve their representative goals and enjoy their experience on the junior representative pathway.
Chris, whilst amazing, did not achieve these successes on his own. He had the support of the entire Council, including our long-standing Vice Chair and Finance Subcommittee Chair, Andrew Wrigley. Andrew has also chosen to step down from Council this year, after volunteering his time and wisdom over the last 13 years. Andrew’s keen eye and ability to cut straight to the issue at hand was always appreciated and will be sorely missed.
I speak on behalf of all Council members; Julie, Jon, Lucie, Tristan, Darren and newly appointed Deb Sayers, in wishing both Chris and Andrew all the best in their next stage of life, spending more time with family and being able to undertake those long anticipated holidays overseas.
Continuing the efforts towards continual improvement to operations and service, I would like to acknowledge our hard-working office staff, led by Executive Officer, Lil Mutton, who have overcome many obstacles in the last 6 months including finding permanent housing for the office, improving communications with the development of a new website and preparing for not just one but two School Sport Australia Games this year.
The office staff are supported by an amazing army of teachers who support and conduct School and Regional events on top of their very busy school wide responsibilities. Some of these same teachers, along with community sport members, volunteer their time and expertise to step into team official roles to support our State Representative pathway. Without the generous support of this group of volunteers, School Sport opportunities would not be available, and we are eternally grateful for their continued contribution. We are also appreciative of the support of our many State Sporting Organisation delivery partners.
Out of change comes exciting new opportunities and developments, in the next year, I look forward to seeing further growth for School Sport and to hearing of all the accomplishments of our students, teachers and volunteer team officials.
